Program
2025 Sponsored Residency Program Overview
Residency Program Overview
Launched in 2024, this program is designed to support Vietnamese artists, curators, researchers, cultural workers, and collectives, with a focus on emerging and mid-career practitioners. Emphasizing the collaboration between our residents and partnered cultural spaces, our program aims to promote this contemporary, organic relationship to ground our work in place, which is the historically and culturally rich city of Huế - Việt Nam, while maintaining a conscious vision of our globalized age. Anchored by three core principles – work-based residency, experimental research, and community engagement – we strive to empower creative thinkers and practitioners to bring their ideas to fruition and share their realized projects with our audiences. By fostering artistic innovation across mediums such as moving images, installation, painting, sculpture, performance, and sound art, we aim to nurture talent and create social value through exchange and cultural exploration.

1. Place and Space
Place
Huế is a mid-sized city in Central Việt Nam, known as the Old Capital and for its heritage, culture, arts, and crafts. AirHue is located in Trúc Lâm village, to the west of the city center, near one of Huế's most prominent monuments, the Thiên Mụ pagoda.
The village is renowned for its annual elaborate offerings to wandering spirits, and its residents are known for their quality of life and longevity, which they attribute to rich spiritual practices and a deep appreciation of daily hard work. These little stories reflect something profound about this place: life here is nurtured in embodied, consistent, and miraculous ways.
Space and Resources
Residency Lodging
AirHue is located in a traditional Huế house with a 1,700-square-meter garden featuring seasonal fruit trees and a large fish pond.
A private room with a fully-equipped kitchen, private bathroom, air conditioning, working desk, safety lock, and strong Wi-Fi.
If you apply as a collective, we can provide additional bamboo mats so you can share the room with your group.
Support & Resources
Assistance and administrative support from the coordinator before your arrival.
Connection to a specialized/craft studio, tailored to your proposal and interests.
1-hour weekly mentorship sessions with an experienced local artist.
Up to 2 hours per week of curatorial sessions with our in-house curator.
Support for organizing an open studio and, if possible, a workshop/talk toward the end of your residency (note: event costs should be covered by the production fund from the sponsorship).
Accommodation Capacities: We aim to host 2-3 residents at a time. This includes our sponsored residents and residents from our Visiting Artist Residency Program. The exact duration will be discussed and determined during the interview process. Factors to be considered include the resident's preferences, the scale of their project, and our available accommodations.
2. Sponsorship Package
For our 2025 Residency Program, we are offering up to three (03) sponsorships, with priority given to young and mid-career Vietnamese art and cultural practitioners/collectives who are currently residing in Việt Nam.
Our sponsorship package waives the residency fee of up to USD 2,250 (USD 750 per month for up to 3 months), which covers accommodation (studio, electricity, wifi), administrative support (coordinator, management support), and team assistance (curator, producer).
Additionally, the package includes a USD 200 reimbursement for travel expenses and a production fund (which includes the cost for the open studio event) ranging from USD 500 to 2,000, determined based on the project proposal.
3. Eligibility Criteria
The sponsorship is open to artists, curators, researchers, cultural workers, and collectives aged 18 and above. For the 2025 Residency Program, the sponsorship prioritizes young and mid-career Vietnamese nationals currently residing in Việt Nam.
For sponsored residents, we require a minimum stay of two (02) and a maximum of three (03) months, falling within the period from February 15 to December 31, 2025. We encourage our sponsored artists to plan for longer residencies as it might be necessary and/or preferred by the artists given a mandatory open studio at the end of your stay.
To apply, interested applicants must submit all required information and documents through our Google Form Open Call for Sponsorship Applications: 2025 Residency Program by Tuesday, December 31, 2024, 11:59 PM (GMT +7). We encourage applicants to carefully review our Application Checklist to ensure that all materials are complete and properly prepared before submission.

5. Selection Criteria
Decisions made during the selection process are at AirHue organizing committee's and our curator's discretion. Several factors will be carefully considered, including the feasibility of the proposed project, our ability to accommodate the artist’s needs, and the capacities of our program's resources. While we strive to support a diverse range of projects, the final decision will reflect both the project's alignment with our goals and the practical logistics involved in ensuring a successful residency.
